Paying Tribute to our Founding Father, late Mr Lee Kuan Yew

Dear children,

As we mourn the demise of Singapore's late founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, take a moment to reflect how we have become what we are today. He is more than just a man you learn from the textbook or hear from people. He has dedicated his whole life to building our nation. His wisdom, foresight, perseverance, willpower, tenacity and incredible commitment to his cause is unparalleled. We have a roof over our heads, food on our table, a world class transport system and education, law and order, a place filled with abundant opportunities and all these are attributed to his years of hard work. He built Singapore, a country with nothing and no natural resources from scratch, and change it from a third world country to a first world country in one generation. It was a mammoth task but an extraordinary Mr Lee accomplished the impossible.

Be thankful and contented with what you have, for being able to live in this tiny red dot known to all across the world as a prosperous, safe, clean, green and efficient metropolitan city. Know that you are blessed, and that Singapore owes it largely to a great leader and a hero to be where we are today.

I have created a wall for you to pen down your words of condolences. Do take time to think through, and leave words of sympathy that you have for his family as well as your last words to late Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

You can click here to access the page. Just double click anywhere on the wall to write a tribute and do remember to write down your name. I have written mine.

You can click here to find out more about his contributions to Singapore. There are speeches and videos uploaded on the PAP website to pay tribute to him. You can also follow the live blog on http://www.straitstimes.com/ to get the latest news and read more about his history.

Know that the visionary and inspiring leader, late Mr Lee Kuan Yew has left behind a legacy which will live on for generations to come and the future of Singapore now lies in your hands.

Regards,
Mrs Ong
