Research for Stellar Unit 3: Defending the Seas
Dear 6 Joy,
If you happen to see this post, do take some time off today to research on pirates out at sea.
Please also click here and here to read up on the Vikings on Wikipedia. The Vikings were Germanic Norse seafarers, speaking the Old Norse language, who raided and traded from their Scandinavian homelands across wide areas of northern and central Europe, as well as European Russia, during the late 8th to late 11th centuries.
The text is rather lengthy so you can browse through for the main ideas to get a gist of what the Vikings are.
You can click here for a shorter summary of the Vikings on BBC Primary History. The information is more child friendly.
Have fun exploring and do research more on your own!:)
Love,
Mrs Ong

How Punctuation Can Change Meaning
Dear children,
Here are more light-hearted examples of how punctuation can change meaning! Have fun reading them:)
Here’s how the magazine printed the headline:
She cooks her family and her dog (yes, the dog looks worried!) I think they meant “…finds inspiration in cooking, her family, and her dog.”
Example 2:
“Most of the time, travellers worry about their luggage.”
Here are more light-hearted examples of how punctuation can change meaning! Have fun reading them:)
Example 1:
“Most of the time, travellers worry about their luggage.”
Now delete the comma after the fourth word to totally change the meaning of this sentence:
“Most of the time travellers worry about their luggage”
Love,
Mrs Ong
